How To Identify Your Spiritual Gifts From God

So many people don’t know they have a spiritual gifts while some have knowledge about it but have no idea how they can use it. In this post, I will be showing you just five ways how to identify your spiritual gifts from God.

Remember, there’s a saying that spiritual controls the physical in order words one can do nothing positively without having a spiritual knowledge about it.

Like I often tell people every man on Earth has a gift both spiritually, physically and otherwise but some have failed to identify theirs and that is why majority are living in absolute negligence.

It’s time to discover yours spiritually.

How To Identify Your Spiritual Gifts From God

1.Pay Attention to What Comes Naturally

When it comes to the origin of our spiritual gifts, the apostle Paul informs the Corinthian church that they come from the Spirit of God and are distributed to everyone for the common good. This confirms the reality that everyone has a spiritual gift whether they know what it is or not. The challenge becomes identifying what the gift or gifts are.

In 1 Corinthians 12:8-11, Paul helps us with this mystery by identifying a few of the gifts people can posses. “To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.”

One or more of these is likely to come naturally. Without effort, an individual may exhibit a spiritual gift and not know it. Likewise, in a crisis, one or more of these may be our immediate response.

Are you prone to think deeply and offer wisdom in the midst of difficult circumstances? Are you able to exercise extreme faith in what appears to be impossible odds? Maybe you have a desire to heal the sick. The answer to these questions may point directly to your spiritual gifts. If we are going to identify and use our spiritual gifts during a crisis, we need to pay attention to our natural proclivities.

2. Pray

It sounds simple, but I am afraid many people skip this important step. Pray and ask God to show you what your spiritual gift is.

3. Learn about Spiritual Gifts

What are the different spiritual gifts? What types of gifts are there? How do they work together? We will be looking at all of these questions in our blog posts this month.

4. Take a Spiritual Gift Inventory

There are lots of spiritual gift tests or inventories from which you may choose. Here is one, “Gifted 2 Serve” by, I have used for adults. I especially like its explanations of the gifts.

Remember that these spiritual gift tests or inventories are only starting points. The results you get are not the final word. It is simply a place to begin your investigation. You have to try different things and use your gifts to really know what they are.

5. Try gifts on for size

How do you know you don’t have the gift of teaching, for example, unless you try it? The same could be said of each of the gifts. Spiritual gifts can surprise you because they are by nature God working through you.

For example, I’ve said before that I get very nervous when I am going to be in front of a group of my peers. I get nervous enough that people around me notice. Just before I speak, sing, or teach in public, I can’t sit still. I don’t like to talk to anyone because I am trying to give myself a pep-talk. I am visibly nervous.

But, a funny thing happens when I step out and begin to teach. The Holy Spirit takes over. I have prepared, prayed, and practiced, but when I actually speak, it’s like none of that matters. I have a “peace that passes understanding” (a peace and calm that doesn’t make sense apart from God, Philippians 4:7). This only happens when I am teaching from the Bible.

6. Look and listen for feedback

When you are gifted in something, people will notice and tell you. Not just one or two people either. If people keep telling you that you are good at something, it may be because it is one of your spiritual gifts.
